          The Department of Archaeology of the Roman Provinces is a part of the Institue of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw. The staff of the Department deal with archaeology, history and culture of the provinces of the Roman Empire with emphasis on quaestions concerning European frontiers (limes), but also the African provinces and Middle East. Our main interest is focused on excavations in the legionary fortress at Novae (present Bulgaria). Other investigated sites are in Herzegovina, Romania (Tibiscum, Pojejena), Georgia (Gonio), as well as on Crimea. The employees are academics at the University of Warsaw where they give lectures and seminars on the archaeology of the Roman provinces.
